How we use CAD/CAE at Kova Engineering (Saskatchewan) Ltd.
Our CAD/CAE technology empowers us to deliver exceptional results in engineering projects through:
- Enhanced precision in design: CAD allows our drafting technologists to create detailed and accurate 3D models, reducing the chances of errors and rework.
- Improved project efficiency: By integrating CAD/CAE in our systems, our team streamlines the design process, makes quick modifications, and improves collaboration among team members.
- Compliance assurance: CAD/CAE tools help us ensure our designs comply with industry standards and regulations.
- Comprehensive analyses: CAE allows us to conduct comprehensive analyses, such as finite element analysis (FEA), to simulate and predict the performance of the designs under various conditions.
- Optimize performance: Through CAE, our expert engineers simulate real-world conditions and optimize our designs for peak performance.

3D Scanning Services
When data collection is required from existing or brown field locations, our 3D scanning technology captures site data with greater precision, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness compared to traditional methods. Our 3D scanner technology also provides architectural, general contracting, or home building firms with exact measurements of existing constructions to aid in developing accurate designs with minimal re-work.
What is the 3D Scanner?
We use the Leica Scan Station P40 – High-Definition 3D Laser Scanning Solution. Our 3D scanner can collect high-quality 3D data that is accurate and detailed, enabling custom fit engineering designs to each individual project. It also has capability to collect dimensional information with precision in less-than-ideal environmental conditions, without sacrificing clarity or efficiency during our information gathering process.
The benefits of using the 3D scanner for our client’s project:
- Collect data faster and more accurately than with conventional methods.
- High quality, high resolution, usable information.
- Reduces costly field re-work.
- Decreases the number of site visits needed to gather key information.
- Accurate to within 2mm on a single point when compounding measurement error and registration error.
- Convert laser scans to CAD software.
3D scanning can be used for projects such as:
- Reverse engineering and scanner inspections.
- Construction scanning and verification to original design drawings.
- Precise volumetric measurement of stockpiles, holding facilities, and tanks.
- Interference and fit tolerance measurements prior to parts assembly.
- Digital record of locations and/or equipment, land and building surveys.
- Tank calibration.
- Interference and fit tolerance measurements prior to parts assembly.
- Architecture and industrial structure scans.
- Road safety and accident reconstruction.
- Land and building surveys.
