Jason Burtney

Jason is a Senior Engineer and General Manager of Kova Engineering (Saskatchewan) Ltd. and he has worked for Kova, in one capacity or another, for over twenty years.

Jason’s registered area of practice is in the analysis and design of crane supporting structures, overhead cranes, gantry cranes, jib cranes, mobile cranes, under the hook lifting devices, personnel baskets, platforms, and other industrial structures, as well as structural steel for low rise buildings in accordance with applicable codes and regulations. He has significant experience in weld design and specifications, non-destructive testing and quality assurance, and failure analysis.

Jason has developed long-term partnerships and relationships with various clients and employees over the course of his career and has played a key role in the growth of Kova Engineering (Saskatchewan) Ltd.

Jason is an avid hunter and outdoorsman and lives in Saskatoon with his wife, two kids, and “his” dog.

Jordan Gaucher

Jordan is a Senior Inspector and Manager of Inspection services in Saskatoon for Kova Engineering (Saskatchewan) Ltd. He has worked for Kova, in the inspection field, for twenty years.

Jordan is a Civil Engineering Technologist who holds a level 3 in welding inspection through the Canadian Welding Bureau and has both magnetic particle and liquid penetrant non-destructive tickets through the Canadian General Standards Board. His inspection background is in crane and lift equipment, under the hook lifting devices, structural steel (commercial and Industrial buildings), bridges, water towers and other industrial structures in accordance with applicable codes and regulations. He has significant experience in the welding industry, code, specifications, non-destructive testing and quality assurance fields.

Jordan has enjoyed working with our clients over the years to build long-lasting relationships and is looking forward to building more into the future.

Jordan enjoys snowboarding, soccer, and golf and hopes to do more traveling in the coming years.

Jordan is a father of three daughters and a grandfather to one granddaughter. He resides with his family in Delisle SK.

Simon Woods

Simon is a Senior Engineer and a manager of the engineering and drafting group. He has worked with Kova Engineering (Saskatchewan) Ltd. since 2008.

Simon’s field of practice includes areas falling under both mechanical and structural disciplines including stress analysis, structural design, connection design, and machine design. Much of his experience has been focused on industrial structures with a focus on cranes, lifting equipment, and lifting point design and lift planning. Through his completion of a Master’s degree in the field of structural vibration analysis and control, Simon developed competencies in the fields of dynamics, optimization, and finite element analysis.

Simon lives in Saskatoon and loves to play soccer and stay active with his wife and two boys.

Derek Horvath

Derek is the Regina branch manager and he has been with Kova for over twenty years.

Derek inspects overhead cranes, gantry cranes, jib cranes, mobile cranes, under the hook lifting devices, personnel baskets, platforms, aerial devices, service/drill rigs, fire trucks and other industrial structures, as well as visual weld inspections on various structural steel on buildings and bridges in accordance with applicable codes and regulations. He has significant experience in stability and  load testing of cranes and mobile equipment, performing accident investigations, hardness testing, and non-destructive testing.

Derek has developed long-term partnerships and relationships with various clients and employees over the course of his career and has played a key role in the growth of the Regina Branch. He takes pride in his staff providing safe quality inspections and services for their clients.

Derek enjoys the summers at the cabin, boating, and fishing, as well as taking hot holidays in the winter with his family and friends. Derek also enjoys coaching his kids’ activities and lives in White City with his wife, two kids, and their dog.

Steven Stinson

He has significant experience in weld design and specifications, non-destructive testing, and quality assurance.

Steve’s biggest investment is in people- clients, his colleagues, and the public. He has built substantial relationships during his tenure with Kova and looks forward to building on those relationships in the future. 

Steve is an avid woodworker and lives in Regina with his wife, two kids, and two dogs.

Paul Caughlin

Paul has several years of experience working on projects for the heavy industrial sector in Saskatchewan and Alberta as both a mechanical and structural engineer. He has permission to consult in an exceptionally wide range of fields. For the last several years, Paul and his team of engineers and technologists have primarily provided engineering services for fabricators building large mining and power-generation process equipment.

In 2012, Paul completed a master’s degree focused on structural and geotechnical engineering. His thesis project used finite element analysis techniques to examine the soil-structure interaction of deep and shallow foundation supporting columns subject to high moments.

What sets Paul apart from his peers is his experience with computer-aided analysis techniques and his ability to interpret results in the context of code and standard requirements.
