Project Overview
Kova Engineering (Saskatchewan) Ltd. designed a modular steel enclosure and concrete foundations for a mining client to shelter process equipment, utilizing 3D site scanning (without operational downtime) to optimize topography-aligned foundations and drainage. The structure integrated hoists, cranes, and safety features for efficient installation and maintenance, with shop-fabricated modules enabling rapid on-site assembly. Certified drawings and end-to-end engineering support ensured durability and compliance in a high-demand environment.
Main Objectives of the Project
Design a structural steel enclosure to shelter process equipment from the elements. The structure and foundation were designed to be modular so it could be fabricated in a shop and assembled on-site to minimize the on-site construction time. The structure is designed to provide access for installation of the process equipment and maintenance.
Project Description
The area where the structure was to be constructed was 3D scanned to map the topography of the ground. This allowed Kova’s engineers to properly design the foundation and drainage plan. All scanning and site measurements were done while the process equipment was running so there was no downtime required. Kova’s design included hoists and monorail cranes which facilitate new equipment installation and future maintenance.
A conveyor belt stepover was also integrated into the design to add convenience and access to the structure. Guards and other safety features were included to complete the design. Kova’s deliverable was an engineer-authenticated drawing set which depicted all parts, assemblies and fabrication details. Kova provided engineering support during the fabrication and installation.
